CHEMICAL PEELS

A chemical peel is a skin care treatment where a formulated solution is applied to and absorbed by the skin, causing increased exfoliation to address specific areas of concerns. The exfoliating agents can be a single dose or combination of acids including glycolic acid, lactic acid, trichloracetic acid (TCA) and salicylic acid which can often be found in smaller doses in many common skin care products.

Chemical peels are a great treatment option to address minimal to mild concerns or use as a refresher treatment for your skin throughout the year. They are also an excellent entry treatment for those who may not be ready to embark upon laser treatments, but are looking for more impact than a series of facials can offer.

What do chemical peels treat?

The chemical peels target acne, discoloration, skin texture, fine lines and melasma. Each treatment is tailored to fit your specific needs as no two patients have the same concerns or complexions.

What can I expect when I get a chemical peel?

After your chemical peel you can expect to leave the solution on your skin for a set amount of time, depending on the type of peel you receive. (For medium depth peels this time frame is often approximately 4 hours.) Over the next several days you will notice your skin start to peel as if you’ve had a bad sunburn. This peeling typically peeks about 3 days post-peel, with the most important thing to remember during this process is NOT to pull the skin away. Let the skin exfoliate naturally and use products as directed during this time.

How many chemical peels will I need?

This answer depends on the conditions you are looking to address, the severity of these issues and your desired outcome. Melasma can take additional treatments to address as opposed to mild to moderate acne or light discoloration, but again, this depends on your own complexion and concerns. Patients often see results after one peel but could require a series of peels to reach maximum transformation.
